Though it’s called the Eastern White Pine Tree, it’s named this way for its white sapwood! The foliage itself remains a stunning green year-round, a perfect pop of color amidst the usual bare trees of winter.

This cold-tolerant tree can be planted in many climates, since it’s so durable and long-lasting. Plus, it grows up to two feet per year before reaching amazing heights of 50-80 feet in maturity!

The Eastern White Pine is a majestic tree that has been used for sturdy building materials for centuries. It even attracts tons of wildlife and birds, leading nature right into your own backyard!

Whether you want to plant it as a focal point or create a privacy screen by planting many together, this tree is versatile in its uses. Just ensure it’s planted somewhere it can receive enough sunlight and well-drained soil.

As for watering, this tree only needs to be watered during periods of drought, making maintenance so much easier! This towering tree asks for little but gives so much in return.

Eastern White Pine Tree FAQ

Is this tree good for city/urban settings?

We would recommend planting this tree somewhere more rural, since it thrives best in an environment without pollution or compacted soil, and with open spaces for it to grow.

Does this tree attract certain wildlife?

Yes! This tree attracts many animals, from birds to squirrels, and porcupines to snowshoe hares. It is deer and rabbit-resistant, however.

Eastern White Pine Tree Care

Planting

Plant your tree in a spot in your yard that gets at least 4 hours of sun each day. Also choose a place in your yard that has moderate soil that isn't too dry or wet. Then, dig a hole that's large enough to accommodate the root ball, place your tree carefully, and back fill the soil.

Place a layer of pine needles or mulch around the base for moisture retention, and be sure the soil is firm after planting. If you can pull the tree out once it is planted, pack the soil more tightly.

Watering

Unless you are going through a period of drought, there's no need to water the Eastern White Pine since it is very drought resistant.

Maintenance

Prune your tree in winter or fall, keeping only the branches at the top two-thirds of tree. This will help your tree grow straighter and become more disease-resistant. Immediately prune any diseased branches.
