If you’re looking to fill your home or garden with a tropical flair, the Areca Palm Tree is a wonderful addition! This plant is easy to pot and bring indoors for colder climates, and it adds some beautiful greenery to your living space.

This plant also has some wonderful features, like its air-filtering and ability to remove irritants for some truly fresh air indoors. It grows to a modest size inside, but if you’re hoping for it to grow much larger in a more southern climate, plant it in your yard for more height.

Since this plant thrives in low light and can withstand high levels of heat, maintenance will be a breeze! Plus, it’s not too particular about soil or too much water, which is an added bonus.

If you’re ready to add an effortless tropical plant to your home, order the Areca Palm Tree today!

Areca Palm Tree Care

Planting

Choose a location that receives full-partial sun (4-6 hours daily) in colder climates, with indirect sun in warmer climates (less than 4-6 hours daily). When planting, dig your hole 2-3 times the width and slightly shallower than the root ball. As you back fill the site, hold the tree straight and tamp down the soil as you go. Then, apply water to settle the soil and remove any air pockets.

If planting in a container, select a pot that is 1 or 2 times larger than the one your plant arrived in. Choose a place somewhere on your patio, backyard, or front/side of the house, so long as it will receive full to partial sun.

Watering

Stick your finger into the potting soil down 2 inches to feel around for moisture. If the soil is drying out, add water until you see it escaping the drainage holes and then stop. If there is still moisture present, leave it be until it dries a bit more.

Fertilizing

You can apply palm fertilizers that contain specific nutrients best suited to these varieties. You can use a balanced fertilizer such as an 8-8-8 formula for quicker growth in spring and summer, if you prefer. To avoid yellowing and to maintain a healthy shade of green, feed your tree a few spoonfuls of Epsom salt or a fertilizer with nutrients (such as manganese) which will prevent yellowing and shriveling of the fronds.

Maintenance

Palms do not need much pruning except to remove damaged fronds. Be cautious to not pull off any dead or damaged fronds - always remove damaged fronds by pruning them off with a sharp pair of sterilized pruners.
