I wanted trees that would give me privacy. I just lost a 25+ yr old Ash and can't stand my back yard with out the tree. These trees will grow quickly and are evergreens.

How do you take care of drying Italian Cypress ?
A shopper on Sep 11, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Watering deeply less often is much better than watering a little every day. Mulching can help to keep moisture in the soil longer.
Will they survive in Providence, RI? Thank you.
A shopper on Jul 25, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Unfortunately, no. Italian Cypresses grow best in warm climates, specifically zones 7-11. It looks like Providence is a zone 6.

Check out the Skypencil Holly for a similar look that will do great in your area (they don't get nearly as tall though). Here is the link: http://www.theplantingtree.com/sky-pencil-holly.html

Care

How To Care for your new Italian Cypress Tree

Choose a sunny location with well drained soil for your Italian Cypress.

Water in well at the time of planting.  Be sure not to let your new trees dry out within the first few months before they are established.  We recommend watering your trees as soon as they arrive even before you plant them.  This will ensure that the roots are moist and ready for planting.  Once established Italian Cypresses are drought tolerant and will only need to be watered once or twice a month in summer.

There is no need to prune an Italian Cypress.  If you choose to prune for shape or to remove problem branches winter is the ideal time.

Early Spring is the best time to fertilize and add any soil amendments.

Landscape Ideas

Landscape Ideas for your Italian Cypress Tree

Italian cypress are used by landscapers to add style and give your property a dramatic impact. They are great to plant near the entrance of your home or driveway or even to line your driveway.  They also make excellent screens and wind breaks!

Planting Instructions

Step 1:

Unpack all of your plants right away! Look for the perfect location. Make sure you are planting in the correct light conditions.

Step 2:

Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball. Position your plant in the hole. Make sure the top of the root ball is slightly higher than the original grade of the bed. Also check to make sure it is straight from all sides.

Step 3:

Fill up hole with water before placing new plant in hole in order to saturate the surrounding soil.  Once the water is absorbed place your plant in the hole and water thoroughly.

Step 4:

Mix the potting soil and the soil removed from the hole. Start by backfilling soil around the root ball. Carefully pack in the soil to remove any air pockets. Water plant thoroughly again until the soil will not hold any more water. This will ensure that your new plant will be a success.

Step 5:

Fertilize around your plant with the amount recommended on the package. Our special Fertilizer contains all of the nutrients to keep your plants growing and healthy. Repeat every 3 months.

Step 6:

Finish up by mulching around your new plant.  Apply 2 - 3 inches of mulch around the plant and plant bed. Mulch will help keep the soil moist and keep weeds out.

Step 7:

Keep watered with a hose every 2-3 days for 2 weeks. This is critical for plant survival. In the third week, begin to water as needed depending on the weather. Always check by placing your finger under the mulch to see if the soil is moist.

Very pleased
I received 20 of the 3-4' Italian cypress trees and I was very pleased to see they were exactly what I pictured. They are very green and healthy. There was a problem with the shipper (Fed Ex) in that they stacked them haphazardly and some of the boxes were bent or crushed. Thank goodness you pack them as good as you do, so none of the trees were damaged.

Hope they live and thrive!
These trees arrived very well-packed, quite moist, and in great shape. I'd never ordered trees by mail / internet before, and I was a bit nervous, but The Planting Tree person I spoke with was comfortable to consult with and the company sent excellent saplings.

We live in Baltimore, Maryland, and our soil has clay and doesn't drain as well as I'd like. I hope these Italian Cypress trees do well, but I'm not entirely optimistic, under the circumstances. However, if they fail, it will not be due to the quality of the trees or delivery by The Planting Tree.
