How To Care for your new Wavy Leaf Ligustrum

Before planting be sure to choose the best location for your Wavy Leaf Ligustrum.

Plant in full to partial sun.  Ligustrum are extremely adaptable to just about any soil.  However, avoid areas with standing water or constantly saturated soil.  This condition promotes disease.  Also known as Privets, Ligustrum grow in warmer planting zones, 7 to 10.  These shrubs are pest and disease resistant and once established are maintenance free!  Remember to always keep your plants fertilized with a high quality, slow release fertilizer.  We have our own custom blend made to give your new plants the best start!  Fertilize Wavy Leaf Ligustrum when planting, in early spring and, again, in late summer or early fall.  Water your ligustrum deeply upon planting and once or twice weekly while establishing their root systems.  Once established, Ligustrum are quite drought tolerant.  You will only need to water in dry periods.  Ligustrum can withstand heavy pruning, but don't require it.  Prune any time of the year.

Wavy Leaf Ligustrums are pest and disease resistant and once established are virtually maintenance free!  Ligustrums are drought, heat, pollution, and deer tolerant.

Planting Directions

Step 1:

Unpack all of your plants right away! Look for the perfect location. Make sure you are planting in the correct light conditions.

Step 2:

Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball. Position your plant in the hole. Make sure the top of the root ball is slightly higher than the original grade of the bed. Also check to make sure it is straight from all sides.

Step 3:

Fill up hole with water before placing new plant in hole in order to saturate the surrounding soil.  Once the water is absorbed place your plant in the hole and water thoroughly.

Step 4:

Mix the potting soil and the soil removed from the hole. Start by backfilling soil around the root ball. Carefully pack in the soil to remove any air pockets. Water plant thoroughly again until the soil will not hold any more water. This will ensure that your new plant will be a success.

Step 5:

Fertilize around your plant with the amount recommended on the package. Our special Fertilizer contains all of the nutrients to keep your plants growing and healthy. Repeat every 3 months.

Step 6:

Finish up by mulching around your new plant.  Apply 1-2 inches of mulch around the plant and plant bed. Mulch will help keep the soil moist and keep weeds out.

Step 7:

Keep watered with a hose every 2-3 days for 2 weeks. This is critical for plant survival. In the third week, begin to water as needed depending on the weather. Always check by placing your finger under the mulch to see if the soil is moist.

Exceeded expectations
I have ordered plants from 3 different websites, and theplantingtree was easily superior. My plants shipped quickly, were way bigger than I expected (at least 2 feet), and arrived in very healthy condition. I got them planted and they look great.

What is the life expectancy of wax leaf ligustrum? Ours are 30 years old and lost their leaves for the first time ever this winter. Time to replace?
A shopper on Jan 30, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It is possible it may be time to replace, but I know they can definitely be happy for longer than 30 years. I am sure life expectancy depends on a lot of factors. If you had a particular harsh winter that may have been the culprit. You could wait and see how they do come spring.
How many shrubs does the 3 gallon bring?
A shopper on Oct 1, 2017
BEST ANSWER: 1 plant per container. The larger the container the more mature the plant.
