Product Details

The Blue Sapphire Cypress tree is a fast growing evergreen that features lacy, silvery-blue foliage. It can grow 20 to 30 feet tall and maintains a pyramidal shape.

This tree is a great alternative to a privacy fence. Not only is this evergreen fast growing, but it is also deer, disease, and insect resistant!  Just plant these trees in the ground for a lovely accent tree or use as a wind barrier for your property. No extra pruning or pesticide treatments will be needed for this tree, unlike many evergreens.

The Sapphire Cypress tree maintains a tall and compact shape naturally. Drought tolerant, this tree only requires watering until established.  This evergreen tree will be easy to grow with no extra work needed. Sapphire Cypress prefers full sun and does not require any special soil conditions. For a defined privacy or wind barrier along your property, it is recommended to plant these trees 6-7 ft. apart. You can also choose to only plant 1 of these trees as a focal point or to provide an accent next to your home.

There are many fast growing, evergreen trees to choose from.  The Sapphire Cypress offers you the peace of mind that it will continue to flourish for years to come with no extra maintenance required.

How To Care for your new Sapphire Cypress Tree

Be sure to choose the best location for your Sapphire Cypress.  As long as you avoid extreme temperatures you can plant this tree almost any time of the year.

The Sapphire Cypress thrives in full sun to part sun and can adapt to any soil that is well drained.  They do like a neutral to acidic soil so if you know you have an alkaline soil choose an acidic fertilizer (most fertilizers for evergreens are acidic).  After planting, adding a layer of 2 to 3 inches of mulch will help keep the soil moist and cool.  Mulch can also protect the roots during cold temperatures.  Do not allow the mulch to touch the trunk as this increases the chances of pests and disease.  Water your Cypress deeply a couple times a week for the first few months.  After your tree is established, they only need watered during hot, dry spells.  Fertilize when planting and in early spring yearly with a slow release fertilizer.   When planting be sure to mix the fertilizer into the ground soil well before placing your new plant in the hole to prevent fertilizer burn.  These trees rarely need pruning.

The Sapphire Cypress rarely encounters issues with pests or disease.  Proper location choice, watering, and fertilization are the keys to your success.  It is important to avoid saturated soils to prevent fungal issues.

Planting Directions

Step 1:

Unpack all of your plants right away! Look for the perfect location. Make sure you are planting in the correct light conditions.

Step 2:

Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball. Position your plant in the hole. Make sure the top of the root ball is slightly higher than the original grade of the bed. Also check to make sure it is straight from all sides.

Step 3:

Fill up hole with water before placing new plant in hole in order to saturate the surrounding soil.  Once the water is absorbed place your plant in the hole and water thoroughly.

Planting a shrub digging the hole

Step 4:

Mix the potting soil and the soil removed from the hole. Start by backfilling soil around the root ball. Carefully pack in the soil to remove any air pockets. Water plant thoroughly again until the soil will not hold any more water. This will ensure that your new plant will be a success.

Step 5:

Fertilize around your plant with the amount recommended on the package. Our special Fertilizer contains all of the nutrients to keep your plants growing and healthy. Repeat every 3 months.

Step 6:

Finish up by mulching around your new plant.  Apply 1-2 inches of mulch around the plant and plant bed. Mulch will help keep the soil moist and keep weeds out.

Step 7:

Keep watered with a hose every 2-3 days for 2 weeks. This is critical for plant survival. In the third week, begin to water as needed depending on the weather. Always check by placing your finger under the mulch to see if the soil is moist.

Grow quickly into a beautiful tree
I have four of these trees - two in the ground and two ( both 2-3 yrs old) in large pots. Those in the ground are 4-5 yrs old and are 7-8 feet high with a full foliage. Easy to care for (at least here in Hotlanta) so long as they get plenty of sun.

Ordered 10, 1-2 ft trees. Most were solidly in that range but two we very small, little more than sprouts and practically fell out of the potting soil when planting. They've been a challenge to keep upright without burying too deep.

Overall trees were delivered quickly, can weight to see themore grow and become established trees.

Carefree and fast growing. I have a line of these planted 4 years ago, 10 ft. apart and they're already a hedge line. Building a new home and want to get these started this fall on the new property. May even plant them 12 ft. apart.

Like the color a lot and evergreen to block out the neighbors, plus give a place for the birds to hide or get out of the bad weather. And it has a very graceful appearance!

Purchased a coupe of these trees back in 2015 and they are doing so well that I wanted to add more to my yard! They are fast growing and have such a beautiful color year round!

I bought 4 of these as privacy trees and they grew FAST! (They were 2-3 feet tall when I planted them 5 years ago. Today they are over 20 feet tall.) Unfortunately, one of them died and this is a replacement for it.

we are looking for a barrier / privacy providing evergreen that is deer resistant; we have a lot of deer and even bears passing through our yard. Would this be the right choice?
DorWrob on Apr 9, 2017
BEST ANSWER: You will need to wire ring these trees until they are a couple of years old to protect from deer. The deer eat the tender new growth if the can access. Makes also rub on them when shedding antlers. But, once the trees are larger they can handle the nibbling and rubbing without damage. Plus the deer seem to lose interest in them when the tree is filled in enough to poke them if they get too close. We have a herd of 40+ deer in a subdivision (protected from hunters) and most everyone has planted these and clumping (not running) bamboo for screens.
Do roots clog septic line?
A shopper on Nov 5, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Sorry, I don't have septic lines. I can say this, though, both of them have done quite well here in the hot Atlanta summers - without any extra watering. So, they don't seem water greedy like willows or other such trees. I have another (about 2-3 yrs old) doing quite well in a large pot. Be aware, since they are weepers(branches curl down slightly at the ends as they grow), they appear quite scraggly for those early years. Thereafter they fill in quite nicely and grow quickly into a beautiful full tree.
Do these trees ever have to be pruned? And after it reaches 30 feet do they stop growing?
Susan Z on Jan 23, 2017
BEST ANSWER: They do not have to be pruned. Once they get that large the traditional height growth tends to slow significantly. They don't stop growing; it is just mostly new growth replacing old growth rather than gaining height.
Will blue sapphire cypress survive in pa winters?

Peter Z on Nov 6, 2016

BEST ANSWER: Due to state restrictions in California, we cannot ship this tree into your state.
