Product Details

The Rose Creek Abelia is a dense, compact shrub that provides excellent seasonal interest. The foliage is bright green and eventually transitions to a deep purple when the weather begins to cool. Not only is the foliage beautiful, but the stems themselves provide a great contrast with their vivid crimson pigment. An abundance of white, slightly fragrant flowers are produced during late spring to fall.  In fall the flowers take on a copper-rose color. These fragrant flowers attract butterflies and hummingbirds.

The Rose Creek Abelia is a very versatile and hardy plant. From small groupings, mass plantings to containers, this plant brings distinctive charm to any of your landscaping needs. Not only is it versatile in the area you plant it in, but this plant is frost, drought, heat and deer resistant. What more can you ask for in a shrub?! With a little maintenance, the Rose Creek abelia can go a long way.

To get the best results and color out of Rose Creek Abelia, it is advised to plant 5-6 feet apart to allow room for mature growth, plant in full sun for best color results, and provide a slow release, high nitrogen fertilizer in the spring. This eye-catching shrub provides an excellent source of seasonal color and interest with little care and will add curb appeal to any home or place of business.

How To Care for your new Rose Creek Abelia

Planting Time:  Any time of the year taking care to avoid temperature extremes, especially the height of summer.

Sun:  Full sun for best blooming

Soil:  Very adaptable, but fertile, well drained is ideal

Water:  Deeply water when newly planted and once or twice weekly during establishment.  Once established, only minimal watering is needed and generally only during extended periods of dry, hot weather.

Fertilization:  A fertilizer for flowering shrubs like Rhododendrons will work great for Abelias.  The best times to fertilize are early spring and/or early summer.

Pruning:  Abelias do not generally require pruning, but if pruning is desired winter is best.

Planting Directions

Step 1:

Unpack all of your plants right away! Look for the perfect location. Make sure you are planting in the correct light conditions.

Step 2:

Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball. Position your plant in the hole. Make sure the top of the root ball is slightly higher than the original grade of the bed. Also check to make sure it is straight from all sides.

Step 3:

Fill up hole with water before placing new plant in hole in order to saturate the surrounding soil.  Once the water is absorbed place your plant in the hole and water thoroughly.

Step 4:

Mix the potting soil and the soil removed from the hole. Start by backfilling soil around the root ball. Carefully pack in the soil to remove any air pockets. Water plant thoroughly again until the soil will not hold any more water. This will ensure that your new plant will be a success.

Step 5:

Fertilize around your plant with the amount recommended on the package. Our special Fertilizer contains all of the nutrients to keep your plants growing and healthy. Repeat every 3 months.

Step 6:

Finish up by mulching around your new plant.  Apply 1-2 inches of mulch around the plant and plant bed. Mulch will help keep the soil moist and keep weeds out.

Step 7:

Keep watered with a hose every 2-3 days for 2 weeks. This is critical for plant survival. In the third week, begin to water as needed depending on the weather. Always check by placing your finger under the mulch to see if the soil is moist.

A beautiful plant
I have ordered many plants by mail, but this one was in fantastic condition and very healthy. And now the little flowers are opening and the bees are appreciating them. This is a beautiful plant and if I had room I'd get a second one.

New plant to me. Research says this is long blooming, photos show new leaves start out red before turning green, making a lovely complement to the fade from white to rose flowers.
