When planting your Twist and Shout Hydrangea be sure you have the right location and conditions for your new plants to thrive. Spring and Fall are ideal times to plant Hydrangeas. Avoid planting hydrangeas in summer when temperatures are mid80s or higher.

The Twist and Shout Hydrangea requires full sun to part shade and prefers moist, well-drained, fertile soil. In hot climates, hydrangeas will do best with some shade. If you have alkaline soil and want a blue hydrangea, be sure to amend your soil. To acidify your soil, amend with aluminum sulfate or elemental sulfur. If you are seeking a pink color, add lime several times per year. Keep the soil moist, but not saturated, especially in summer and in the first year after planting. Throughout its life Hydrangeas will do best with a deep watering once weekly during hot temperatures. Mulching at about 3 inches deep is highly recommended for hydrangeas. Mulching will cut back on watering needs and protect your plant in extreme temperatures. Choose a slow release fertilizer for flowering plants. Fertilize once in spring after the last chance of frost and again in early summer for best results. You don’t need to prune hydrangeas, but pruning after they are done blooming can help encourage a bushier growth and renew an older plant.

The best way to prevent disease and pests is by providing the appropriate care for your plants. Proper location choice, watering, and fertilization are the keys to your success. You can treat mites, scale, whiteflies, and aphids naturally with neem oil or insecticidal soap. For severe infections you can use pesticides like carbaryl, also known as Sevin. Fungal infection can be prevented by making sure the planting site has good drainage and by avoiding overhead watering. Fungal infections can be treated with a fungicide. Generally, treating fungus after infection isn't effective so if you have problems with other plants or in a prior year, treat preventatively in early spring.

Each plant we package and ship will carefully be inspected to make sure that you receive the highest quality plant possible, free from insect infestations and disease. All of our plants are living and healthy at time of shipping.

There are many factors that affect a plant. Weather, soil conditions, watering conditions, animal and pest damage, etc. Since we are shipping live plants, timing is critical. Most orders are processed and shipped within 1 - 3 days from checkout.

On occasion a plant order can take up to 5 days for processing. We plan each shipment to avoid your plants sitting in a truck over the weekend if possible. This means orders may be held until the following monday to ensure the shortest ship time. This delay will guarantee that your plants arrive the highest quality possible. Plants that specify shipping at different seasons will be shipped when they become available. ex. ships fall

Twist-n-Shout Endless Summer Hydrangea

I ordered 4 Hydrangeas and they were shipped 2 to a box. Both boxes arrived crushed. I am sure it was more a problem with the carrier, but the plants, pots and root ball looked a little sad. The real problem was the root balls were full of Chiese Jumping Earthworms which are an onvasive species. I tried to pick them out but sure I miss some and their eggs. The root ball suffed more becuase of it.

I love my Twist and Shout

I saw one blooming in a garden on the Oregon Coast, thought it was gorgeous, and decided to add one to my garden near Portland. It has lovely blossoms lasting for months. I do protect it from cold in the winter with mulch and fir boughs. The attached photo is at 3 years. I prune after the flowers are gone.
