Grey Owl Junipers bring color to your landscape. Enjoy year-round, light blue color with no maintenance. Grey Owl Junipers are a very hardy Juniper that is insect and disease resistant. It intensifies the color of your landscape and brings it to life.

Grey Owl Junipers really compliment red color shrubs and trees. Install the Grey Owl Juniper behind Drift Roses, or near Loropetalum. The reds and blues go great together.

Junipers love sun. So don't worry about the heat, this shrub will thrive in the sun. Grey Owl Junipers can be planted individually or in groups of three or more. They also make great hedges. We like to make s-shaped hedges with Grey Owl Junipers.  They will reach 3-4 feet tall and up to 6 feet wide.

Once the Grey Owl Juniper gets established, it only needs occasional watering.  We suggest using a premium fertilizer in the spring.

The Grey Owl Juniper is low maintenance.  You can prune to maintain size or shear if you are going for a formal look.  Or just let it be...

How To Care for your new Grey Owl Juniper

Be sure to choose the best location for your Grey Owl Juniper.  As long as you avoid extreme temperatures you can plant your Juniper almost any time of the year.

Junipers thrive in full sun to part sun and adapt to any soil that is well drained.  They do like a neutral to acidic soil so if you know you have an alkaline soil choose an acidic fertilizer (most fertilizers for evergreens are acidic). Junipers are great "street shrubs" as they tolerate pollution and salt well.  After planting, adding a layer of 2 to 3 inches of mulch will help keep the soil moist and protect the lower branches from fungal issues.  Do not allow the mulch to touch the trunk as this increases the chances of pests and disease.  Water your Juniper deeply a couple times a week for the first month or two.  After your plants are established, they only need watered during hot, dry spells. Junipers are drought tolerant after establishing and even moreso after being in the ground about two years.  Fertilize when planting and in early spring yearly with a slow release fertilizer.   When planting be sure to mix the fertilizer into the ground soil well before placing your new plant in the hole to prevent fertilizer burn.

Junipers are extremely hardy and versatile.  When properly cared for, they rarely have issues with pests and disease.  Mites and scale are insects that can occasionally affect Junipers.  These can be treated with horticultural oil. For severe infections the pesticide Bonide is recommended.   Avoid saturated soils to prevent fungal issues in Junipers.

Planting Directions

Step 1:

Unpack all of your plants right away! Look for the perfect location. Make sure you are planting in the correct light conditions.

Step 2:

Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball. Position your plant in the hole. Make sure the top of the root ball is slightly higher than the original grade of the bed. Also check to make sure it is straight from all sides.

Step 3:

Fill up hole with water before placing new plant in hole in order to saturate the surrounding soil.  Once the water is absorbed place your plant in the hole and water thoroughly.

Step 4:

Mix the potting soil and the soil removed from the hole. Start by backfilling soil around the root ball. Carefully pack in the soil to remove any air pockets. Water plant thoroughly again until the soil will not hold any more water. This will ensure that your new plant will be a success.

Step 5:

Fertilize around your plant with the amount recommended on the package. Our special Fertilizer contains all of the nutrients to keep your plants growing and healthy. Repeat every 3 months.

Step 6:

Finish up by mulching around your new plant.  Apply 2 - 3 inches of mulch around the plant and plant bed. Mulch will help keep the soil moist and keep weeds out.

Step 7:

Keep watered with a hose every 2-3 days for 2 weeks. This is critical for plant survival. In the third week, begin to water as needed depending on the weather. Always check by placing your finger under the mulch to see if the soil is moist.
