Product Details

If your looking to add nice, shaggy, yellow shrub to your landscape, this gold mop cypress is for you!

The Gold Mop Cypress is very hardy and requires little to no maintenance.  Very insect and disease resistant and can grow from zones 4-8.  This Cypress bush likes to be in full sun but will grow in some shade.  The more sun it has, the brighter yellow it will be.  Its a slow grower but will reach heights up to 3 feet and about 4 feet wide.  If you plant the Gold Mop Cypress around your home, you can keep it trimmed and it will maintain its size.  Or for a more natural look, just plant and let it be and they will look like a upside down, golden mop.  if you prefer a more manicured look, shear twice a year.

The Gold Mop Cypress looks great planted around camellias, trees, and also in natural areas where they can get larger.  They are a great addition to the landscape and really bring a lot of color.

Add color to you home and enjoy your easy to grow Gold Mop Cypress.

Planting Directions

Step 1:

Unpack all of your plants right away! Look for the perfect location. Make sure you are planting in the correct light conditions.

Step 2:

Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball. Position your plant in the hole. Make sure the top of the root ball is slightly higher than the original grade of the bed. Also check to make sure it is straight from all sides.

Step 3:

Fill up hole with water before placing new plant in hole in order to saturate the surrounding soil.  Once the water is absorbed place your plant in the hole and water thoroughly.

Planting a shrub digging the hole

Step 4:

Mix the potting soil and the soil removed from the hole. Start by backfilling soil around the root ball. Carefully pack in the soil to remove any air pockets. Water plant thoroughly again until the soil will not hold any more water. This will ensure that your new plant will be a success.

Step 5:

Fertilize around your plant with the amount recommended on the package. Our special Fertilizer contains all of the nutrients to keep your plants growing and healthy. Repeat every 3 months.

Step 6:

Finish up by mulching around your new plant.  Apply 1-2 inches of mulch around the plant and plant bed. Mulch will help keep the soil moist and keep weeds out.

Step 7:

Keep watered with a hose every 2-3 days for 2 weeks. This is critical for plant survival. In the third week, begin to water as needed depending on the weather. Always check by placing your finger under the mulch to see if the soil is moist.

Wondering if this shrub will grow in Florida?
A shopper on Jul 18, 2017
BEST ANSWER: We only recommend planting in zones 4 - 8. Most of FL is a 9 or 10.But you can certainly check your zone here:

Check out the sunshine ligustrum or lemon lime nandina for great evergreens that work well in your area with similar color.
What is the best time of year to trim if I want to keep it a certain size?
Carolyn M on Apr 18, 2017
BEST ANSWER: late winter/early spring. I would only prune minimally.
We just planted our Golden Mop Cypress about two weeks ago and I noticed two of them are turning brown from the inside out. Is this because of too much watering or not enough? We were watering everyday but we backed off because I thought it might be because it was too wet.
Tracy A on May 16, 2017
BEST ANSWER: If this brown portion it is soft to the touch probably over watering. You definitely only want to water 2 or 3 times per week at the most. Plants respond much better to a deep watering less that lots of shallow watering. You are welcome to send photos to cs at for us to take a look too. If may just be normal foliage shedding. Evergreens do shed foliage and grow new foliage, just not all at once like deciduous plants.

Gold Mop Cypress turning brown from drought, will it survice?

Does it not do well because of the heat in zone 9? I just love this plant but am in zone 8b or 9 in Spring, TX. Is there any chance it would work? Thank, Heather
Heather B on Jul 25, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Hi Heather. Looks like you're in zone 8b so you should be ok.
