Product Details

The Bobo Hydrangea is a beautiful, dwarf hydrangea that will turn heads. It is a small and compact shrub that will bloom clusters of white flowers from summer all the way to the first frost. It is a great addition to any garden where space is limited. It won the Gold Floral Metal for best novelty plant.

The Bobo Hydrangea is a dwarf variety that maintains a small and compact structure. An abundance of creamy, white flowers are produced in clusters upon strong supporting stems that allow for no drooping. Flowers bloom profusely from July through September. These blooms generally acquire a blushing pink tint toward the end of the flowering season. The Bobo Hydrangea maintains a height of 2-3 feet and a spread of 3-4 feet. This is a great shrub for those Hydrangea lovers that just don’t have the space available for traditional Hydrangeas

Since it is a dwarf variety, the Bobo is perfect for limited space gardens and compact spaces. This shrub looks great when added into a mass or mixed shrub border. It serves as a great lone specimen or accent plant. The white color compliments all other colors in your garden. The clippings are great for fresh flower arrangements and are great when dried as well.  It also does great in containers around your patio!

The Bobo Hydrangea prefers to be planted in full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil. This plant will bloom regardless of soil, pH level, climate, or pruning. To maintain shape, it is best to prune in late winter or early spring. For best blooming results, apply a slow release fertilizer in the early spring.

How To Care for your new Bobo Hydrangea

When planting your Bobo Hydrangea be sure you have the right location and conditions for your new plants to thrive. Spring and Fall are ideal times to plant Hydrangeas.  Avoid planting hydrangeas in summer when temperatures are mid80s or higher.

The Bobo Hydrangea requires full sun to part shade and prefers moist, well-drained, fertile soil.  In hot climates, hydrangeas will do best with some shade.  This variety's color is not affected by soil pH.  Keep the soil moist, but not saturated, especially in summer and in the first year after planting.  Throughout its life Hydrangeas will do best with a deep watering once weekly during hot temperatures.  Mulching at about 3 inches deep is highly recommended for hydrangeas.  Mulching will cut back on watering needs and protect your plant in extreme temperatures.  Choose a slow release fertilizer for flowering plants.  Fertilize once in spring after the last chance of frost and again in early summer for best results.  You don’t need to prune hydrangeas, but pruning after they are done blooming can help encourage a bushier growth and renew an older plant.

The best way to prevent disease and pests is by providing the appropriate care for your plants.  Proper location choice, watering, and fertilization are the keys to your success. You can treat mites, scale, whiteflies, and aphids naturally with neem oil or insecticidal soap.  For severe infections you can use pesticides like carbaryl, also known as Sevin.  Fungal infection can be prevented by making sure the planting site has good drainage and by avoiding overhead watering.  Fungal infections can be treated with a fungicide.  Generally, treating fungus after infection isn't effective so if you have problems with other plants or in a prior year, treat preventatively in early spring.

Planting Instructions

Step 1:

Unpack all of your plants right away! Look for the perfect location. Make sure you are planting in the correct light conditions.

Step 2:

Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball. Position your plant in the hole. Make sure the top of the root ball is slightly higher than the original grade of the bed. Also check to make sure it is straight from all sides.

Step 3:

Fill up hole with water before placing new plant in hole in order to saturate the surrounding soil.  Once the water is absorbed place your plant in the hole and water thoroughly.

Step 4:

Mix the potting soil and the soil removed from the hole. Start by backfilling soil around the root ball. Carefully pack in the soil to remove any air pockets. Water plant thoroughly again until the soil will not hold any more water. This will ensure that your new plant will be a success.

Step 5:

Fertilize around your plant with the amount recommended on the package. Our special Fertilizer contains all of the nutrients to keep your plants growing and healthy. Repeat every 3 months.

Step 6:

Finish up by mulching around your new plant.  Apply 2 - 3 inches of mulch around the plant and plant bed. Mulch will help keep the soil moist and keep weeds out.

Step 7:

Keep watered with a hose every 2-3 days for 2 weeks. This is critical for plant survival. In the third week, begin to water as needed depending on the weather. Always check by placing your finger under the mulch to see if the soil is moist.
