Product Details

Looking for something taller and blue?  Look no further with the Blue Point Juniper.

Enjoy this juniper's blue green foliage year round.  It will reach heights of up to 12 feet tall and get can get as wide as 6-8 feet.  But don't worry, it will maintain its pyramid form and does not require any pruning.  However, if you prefer, you can keep it a certain height and width by keeping it pruned throughout the year.

The Blue Point Juniper is deer resistant, drought tolerant, and easy to grow.

This evergreen can be used in a variety of areas throughout the yard.  It's great for on each side of a window to soften up the appearance of your house and add height to your landscape.  Plant a Blue Point Juniper on each side of a main window and then add some smaller dwarf variety shrubs under the window to enhance its color.  Pigmy Barberry and Loropetalum are both great choices for red.

This juniper makes a great privacy hedge or wind barrier.  Plant each Juniper about 6-8 feet apart for a privacy.  Add some Flowering Cherry trees in the front and you'll have a super colorful privacy screen.

Are you looking to get creative?  Its a great Juniper for making topiaries!  Plant in a container on your patio for a Zen look.

How To Care for your new Blue Point Juniper

Be sure to choose the best location for your Blue Point Juniper.  As long as you avoid extreme temperatures you can plant your Juniper almost any time of the year.

Junipers thrive in full sun to part sun and adapt to any soil that is well drained.  They do like a neutral to acidic soil so if you know you have an alkaline soil choose an acidic fertilizer (most fertilizers for evergreens are acidic). Junipers are great "street shrubs" as they tolerate pollution and salt well.  After planting, adding a layer of 2 to 3 inches of mulch will help keep the soil moist.  Do not allow the mulch to touch the trunk as this increases the chances of pests and disease.  Water your Juniper deeply a couple times a week for the first month or two.  After your plants are established, they only need watered during hot, dry spells. Junipers are drought tolerant after establishing and even moreso after being in the ground about two years.  Fertilize when planting and in early spring yearly with a slow release fertilizer.   When planting be sure to mix the fertilizer into the ground soil well before placing your new plant in the hole to prevent fertilizer burn.

Junipers are extremely hardy and versatile.  When properly cared for, they rarely have issues with pests and disease.  Mites and scale are insects that can occasionally affect Junipers.  These can be treated with horticultural oil. For severe infections the pesticide Bonide is recommended.   Avoid saturated soils to prevent fungal issues in Junipers.

Planting Directions

Step 1:

Unpack all of your plants right away! Look for the perfect location. Make sure you are planting in the correct light conditions.

Step 2:

Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball. Position your plant in the hole. Make sure the top of the root ball is slightly higher than the original grade of the bed. Also check to make sure it is straight from all sides.

Step 3:

Fill up hole with water before placing new plant in hole in order to saturate the surrounding soil.  Once the water is absorbed place your plant in the hole and water thoroughly.

Planting a shrub digging the hole

Step 4:

Mix the potting soil and the soil removed from the hole. Start by backfilling soil around the root ball. Carefully pack in the soil to remove any air pockets. Water plant thoroughly again until the soil will not hold any more water. This will ensure that your new plant will be a success.

Step 5:

Fertilize around your plant with the amount recommended on the package. Our special Fertilizer contains all of the nutrients to keep your plants growing and healthy. Repeat every 3 months.

Step 6:

Finish up by mulching around your new plant.  Apply 1-2 inches of mulch around the plant and plant bed. Mulch will help keep the soil moist and keep weeds out.

Step 7:

Keep watered with a hose every 2-3 days for 2 weeks. This is critical for plant survival. In the third week, begin to water as needed depending on the weather. Always check by placing your finger under the mulch to see if the soil is moist.

Nice Trees
We bought 10 of these trees last week for the side of our driveway. We wanted to add some more privacy from our neighbor. They look great! Have a nice blue color and really stand out.

Overall we were happy with the price and speed of shipping.

Hardy and handsome
So far so good! I bought two junipers to replace old, dying Mountain Ash in front of our house. The soil is a crazy mix of clay, landscaping techniques from previous owners, and remodeling junk (eg. rusty nails), so I had to get something tough! The shrubs were packaged very well, have great form, and were easy to plant. They also seem unphased by the obnoxiously severe weather changes we've had in Southern Michigan.

Completely Satisfied!
I was a little uncomfortable ordering trees from a source on the Web, but was pleasantly pleased with my trees when they arrived neatly wrapped and boxed and placed at my door. If you can't find what you want at your local nursery, try the planting tree!

Conned again......
.........why do I keep buying plants on line. Ordered three 3-4 foot blue points, they arrived, I was excited, I had the perfect spots for them! Then I opened the boxes, they looked small, got the tape measure out and yes they were all 2-3 inches UNDER 3 feet, see picture - the three foot mark is the dark area on the tape. Then on examining one plant it was obvious this was not a specimen plant, the lower branches all drooped and the center of the plant is very brown, picture dose not do justice to how bad this plant loks...other two looked fine. I gave 2 stars because the packaging was great!!!
Center of plant is brown and all the lower branches droop!!!
Top of tree is 3 inches below the three foot mark and these were menat to be 3-4 foot trees

Response from ThePlantingTree.com
We are so sorry to hear this. If you did not already do so, please send us photos of the plants with the measuring tape clearly visible(I can't quite see the markings of the tape on this photo) to support@theplantingtree.com. Anytime plants have an issue on arrival, please submit photos right away so we can can get the issue resolved. We are more than happy to compensate you for the size difference. The brown center foliage is normal for all evergreens - even though they are evergreen and have foliage all year they still shed foliage just like deciduous trees - just not at once. It will drop naturally or you can simply brush off the old old foliage with a gloved hand. Those lower branches will stiffen up once your tree is planted, but submit the photos so we can note your account in case you have any issues moving forward. Thank you!

We're replacing two old and crumbling Mountain Ash in front of our old farmhouse. The soil is terrible and contains all kinds of detritis from previous remodels, so I had to find a shrub/tree that could handle all sorts of conditions.
