The Baby Gem Boxwood looks stunning in small and large yards and urban and rural landscapes alike.  This boxwood has dense, vivid green foliage. The leaves of this boxwood are small and smooth. This evergreen shrub is about 4 feet tall and wide at maturity.  Even at this compact size, this boxwood grows faster than comparable varieties.

The Baby Gem Boxwood makes a lovely hedge.  Trim for clean curves and sharp lines and angles.  Leave unpruned for a more natural look.  Define corners with a group of three.  Plant as an accent bush in a mixed bed or garden.  Boxwoods are gorgeous in containers.  Accent your deck, patio, porch, or entryway for a classy look. Boxwoods are generally shaped into balls.  Step outside of the ball and into the box...try squares and rectangles for a showy look that will catch everyone's eye!  Transform your landscape with boxwoods.  The options are endless!  Go formal.  Go casual.  It's all up to you!

How To Care for your new Baby Gem Boxwood

Baby Gem Boxwoods grow in full sun to part shade. They adapt well to a variety of well-draining soils.  Water deeply twice weekly when newly planted to help the roots grow properly.  Add 2-3 inches of mulch to help your new plant stay moist.  Once established this boxwood is drought tolerant.  However, boxwoods will perform best when watered once weekly during dry periods, including in winter.  Fertilize when planting and in early spring with our balanced, slow release fertilizer to give your boxwood a boost. Pruning can be done anytime of the year.  However, it is best to avoid pruning in late fall as pruning will stimulate new growth that will be too tender to survive the freezing, winter temperatures.

This boxwood is rabbit and pollution tolerant and deer, pest, and disease resistant.

Planting Directions

Step 1:

Unpack all of your plants right away! Look for the perfect location. Make sure you are planting in the correct light conditions.

Step 2:

Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball. Position your plant in the hole. Make sure the top of the root ball is slightly higher than the original grade of the bed. Also check to make sure it is straight from all sides.

Step 3:

Fill up hole with water before placing new plant in hole in order to saturate the surrounding soil.  Once the water is absorbed place your plant in the hole and water thoroughly.

Step 4:

Mix the potting soil and the soil removed from the hole. Start by backfilling soil around the root ball. Carefully pack in the soil to remove any air pockets. Water plant thoroughly again until the soil will not hold any more water. This will ensure that your new plant will be a success.

Step 5:

Fertilize around your plant with the amount recommended on the package. Our special Fertilizer contains all of the nutrients to keep your plants growing and healthy. Repeat every 3 months.

Step 6:

Finish up by mulching around your new plant.  Apply 1-2 inches of mulch around the plant and plant bed. Mulch will help keep the soil moist and keep weeds out.

Step 7:

Keep watered with a hose every 2-3 days for 2 weeks. This is critical for plant survival. In the third week, begin to water as needed depending on the weather. Always check by placing your finger under the mulch to see if the soil is moist.

Survived in Excellent Shape
Arrived in excellent shape and transplanted well. This is the first time I have ordered plants like this and did not know what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. After only a few days plants look like they were there forever. Had a couple or raised planters and pots on a porch I wanted to put them in and dwarf varieties are near impossible to find locally. Most that are offered locally seemed to be geared towards flower bed and lawn set ups. As an added bonus it appears these leaves maybe a bit darker than some of the other varieties. Would buy again!!
