Need to add some blues and purples to your landscape?  This is the juniper for you!

Features of the Angelica Blue Juniper

Much like the Grey Owl Juniper, the Angelica Blue is very similar in color and texture.  However, the Angelica Blue has a much deeper bluish purple color when the temperatures cool down.

This juniper loves full sun and well drained soil.  It can reach heights up to 3-5 feet tall and about 5-8 feet wide.

What makes this Angelica Blue Juniper so special is its ease of use in the landscape.  It really brings out colors of other plants that it surrounds.

Landscape Ideas for the Angelica Blue Juiper

The deep blues of this Juniper will really pull out the greens, yellows, and reds of other shrubs and perennials.  Plant a grouping of this Juniper behind our Dwarf Loropetalum or Kaleidoscope Abelia.  Groupings of 3-7 are great and really make colorful impact in the landscape.

Plant each Juniper about 3-7 feet apart to allow room for growth.

Trying to match existing Angelica and no one has these in stock in our area. My only alternative was to go on-line and take my chances. Hoping for a good result.

How To Care for your new Angelica Blue Juniper

Be sure to choose the best location for your Angelica Blue Juniper.  As long as you avoid extreme temperatures you can plant your Juniper almost any time of the year.

Junipers thrive in full sun to part sun and adapt to any soil that is well drained.  They do like a neutral to acidic soil so if you know you have an alkaline soil choose an acidic fertilizer (most fertilizers for evergreens are acidic). Junipers are great "street shrubs" as they tolerate pollution and salt well.  After planting, adding a layer of 2 to 3 inches of mulch will help keep the soil moist and protect the lower branches from fungal issues.  Do not allow the mulch to touch the trunk as this increases the chances of pests and disease.  Water your Juniper deeply a couple times a week for the first month or two.  After your plants are established, they only need watered during hot, dry spells. Junipers are drought tolerant after establishing and even moreso after being in the ground about two years.  Fertilize when planting and in early spring yearly with a slow release fertilizer.   When planting be sure to mix the fertilizer into the ground soil well before placing your new plant in the hole to prevent fertilizer burn.

Junipers are extremely hardy and versatile.  When properly cared for, they rarely have issues with pests and disease.  Mites and scale are insects that can occasionally affect Junipers.  These can be treated with horticultural oil. For severe infections the pesticide Bonide is recommended.   Avoid saturated soils to prevent fungal issues in Junipers.

Planting Instructions

Step 1:

Unpack all of your plants right away! Look for the perfect location. Make sure you are planting in the correct light conditions.

Step 2:

Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball. Position your plant in the hole. Make sure the top of the root ball is slightly higher than the original grade of the bed. Also check to make sure it is straight from all sides.

Step 3:

Fill up hole with water before placing new plant in hole in order to saturate the surrounding soil.  Once the water is absorbed place your plant in the hole and water thoroughly.

Step 4:

Mix the potting soil and the soil removed from the hole. Start by backfilling soil around the root ball. Carefully pack in the soil to remove any air pockets. Water plant thoroughly again until the soil will not hold any more water. This will ensure that your new plant will be a success.

Step 5:

Fertilize around your plant with the amount recommended on the package. Our special Fertilizer contains all of the nutrients to keep your plants growing and healthy. Repeat every 3 months.

Step 6:

Finish up by mulching around your new plant.  Apply 2 - 3 inches of mulch around the plant and plant bed. Mulch will help keep the soil moist and keep weeds out.

Step 7:

Keep watered with a hose every 2-3 days for 2 weeks. This is critical for plant survival. In the third week, begin to water as needed depending on the weather. Always check by placing your finger under the mulch to see if the soil is moist.
