Will these trees flourish in New England?
Peter G on Sep 7, 2016
BEST ANSWER: They grow in zones 6-10, so some of New England will be fine. However, Thuja Green Giants are very similar and are a better choice for that area of the country.
is this tree deer resistant?
joanne m on Jul 29, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes Leyland Cypress are deer resistant and much less Likely to be eaten by deer.
Is it OK to plant leyland cypress in December, in Georgia?
A shopper on Oct 26, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I would say it depends on when your ground freezes. If your ground doesn't freeze and you can water the plants for several weeks after planting so they can establish a root system yes you can plant them.
Can the height be kept at 10 feet or 12 by cutting the top?
A shopper on Sep 28, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Pruning the central leader can help slow upward growth and allow for a fuller width. But I think you will be doing a lot of pruning to keep this fast-growing, large evergreen at 10 feet. They do tolerate pruning well so that wouldn't be an issue. If you don't mind all the pruning it's feasible, but you may have an easier time with the Emerald Green Thuja (as long you are in zones 3-8). Leyland growing zones are 6-10.

Oh and stick to late winter/early spring for your heaviest pruning:)
Are these Emerald Isle Leland cypress?
A shopper on Sep 28, 2016
BEST ANSWER: No, these are standard Leyland Cypresses.
can this tree survive in partial sun?
A shopper on Sep 15, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes but they thrive in full sun locations.
If planted near a driveway, will the root system cause any problems?
A shopper on Aug 22, 2016
BEST ANSWER: From what I know about Leyland Cypress , the root system is not very invasive. They are frequently planted along property lines, though, to create a green barrier. If planted along a driveway, keep in mind that they grow tall and wide quickly, and could create blind spots for pulling in and out. An alternative and very similar in evergreen and texture is the emerald green arborvitae, which is slower growing and retains its manicured shape much better than Leyland Cypress. Plus they top out at about 10', whereas Leyland Cypress can easily grow to 18'.
But your original question, the Leyland Cypress root system is not invasive and will not push up or damage your driveway.
Do Leyland Cypress come in lighter green vs dark green? Or is it that they are light green when they are young and get darker as they get older?
Donya on Jul 24, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Leyland Cypresses darken in color as they mature.

Planting & Care

How to Plant & Care for Your new Leyland Cypress Tree

No Maintenance required!

You do not have to prune your Leyland Cypress tree. Just let them grow. Extremely drought tolerant, the Leyland Cypress is growing in popularity in areas where water restrictions have been implemented.

After planting, make sure you water your new trees every day for about 1 week.  After the first week, start spacing out the waterings to every other day.  For the third week water as needed.

Keep your Leyland Cypress trees fertilized with a high quality slow release fertilizer.  Fertilizer will increase the growth rate and provide nutrients that are needed for the best health and color.

Landscaping Ideas

Landscape Ideas for your Leyland Cypress Tree

What makes the Leyland Cypress Tree so popular is its fast growth rate! Leyland Cypress Trees are the go-to tree for any privacy needed in your yard.

Privacy on Property LInes:

  • Space out the Leyland Cypress 6-10 feet apart.  If you plan on planting in a straight line we suggest planting 8-10 feet apart.  If you would like a more natural look, you can stagger the trees spacing them approximately 6-8 feet apart.
  • Leave room on the property line for the trees to grow.  Don't plant directly on the property line because they will grow over the line onto your neighbor's property.
  • Incorporate other flowering shrubs 6-10 Feet in front of your hedge for more color.
  • Also makes a great wind break

Manicured Hedge:

  • Plant your new Leyland Cypress 4-6 feet apart.  As your trees grow, keep the tops and sides sheared.
  • Creates an instant privacy hedge or living fence fast!

Privacy for Pool Areas:

  • Add Leyland Cypress Trees to parts of your yard where you need privacy.  You don't need to plant trees around your entire yard.  Simply look for the areas where you can plant 3-4 trees in a cluster to block out that neighbor's house or their window...

Tall Focal Specimen:

  • Leyland Cypress can also be used as a focal point.  Plant one in your yard and just let it grow.
  • It will definitely be the tallest tree in they yard.

Planting Instructions

Step 1:

Unpack all of your plants right away! Look for the perfect location. Make sure you are planting in the correct light conditions.

Step 2:

Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball. Position your plant in the hole. Make sure the top of the root ball is slightly higher than the original grade of the bed. Also check to make sure it is straight from all sides.

Step 3:

Fill up hole with water before placing new plant in hole in order to saturate the surrounding soil.  Once the water is absorbed place your plant in the hole and water thoroughly.

Planting a shrub digging the hole

Step 4:

Mix the potting soil and the soil removed from the hole. Start by backfilling soil around the root ball. Carefully pack in the soil to remove any air pockets. Water plant thoroughly again until the soil will not hold any more water. This will ensure that your new plant will be a success.

Step 5:

Fertilize around your plant with the amount recommended on the package. Our special Fertilizer contains all of the nutrients to keep your plants growing and healthy. Repeat every 3 months.

Step 6:

Finish up by mulching around your new plant.  Apply 2 - 3 inches of mulch around the plant and plant bed. Mulch will help keep the soil moist and keep weeds out.

Step 7:

Keep watered with a hose every 2-3 days for 2 weeks. This is critical for plant survival. In the third week, begin to water as needed depending on the weather. Always check by placing your finger under the mulch to see if the soil is moist.

I have looked at many garden centers locally and could not find these leyland cypress trees. I ordered the 2 foot trees and they arrived much larger than expected. I saved more money than buying local.

Above average
We are in real-estate and have ordered from other companies. This is hands down our best experience. We ordered 60 and they were ALL much larger than we expected. My partner has suggested linking them to our customers so we can get a company like theplantingtree out there more. We know good business and this company delivers. Our exaction are now very high with them. More orders are on the way. We shall be back. Nice work planting tree.
